I was assigned by Winkie and AngelMD to work on this Honesty Crap, I mean… Scrap, wherein I am to post ten honest (read: Revealing) things about myself. So here we go:
1. I used to bite my fingernails as a kid. I cannot remember how and when it started but I do recall that it felt good. I did stop though, cold turkey, when I turned 12 or 13.
2. I never was much of a reader as a child. Heck, even my spelling sucked. My reading comprehension so bad in fact that my Mom — who tried her darnest to teach (along with the occasional slap on the head, haha) me how to read and write — thought that her eldest child may be autistic.
3. I have a very short temper, and it takes little to tick me off…
4. I DO keep a grudge… and I keep it for a loooong time.
5. My Dad once kicked me out of the house for filching a few bucks out of our old store’s cash box… hey, I was young, and didn’t know any better.
6. My greatest fear, next to dying, is finding out that there really is nothing beyond this physical world. No heaven, no purgatory, not even hell for that matter… just an empty dark void.
7. I am more inclined to watch an interesting documentary on television over that of my favorite sitcom, and this used to piss my ex-wife — who loved watching those stupid telenovelas and variety shows — to no end.
8. I’ve seen “Casablanca” for like 50 times already, and I still never tire of it.
9. I was almost a victim of SID (Sudden Death Syndrome) as a baby. My Mom told me that I stopped breathing for several minutes (or was it seconds?) until a neighbor — who’s had experience in this sort of situation — revived me.
10. Once, during a nightime 12-hour drive to Bicol, I fell asleep for a few seconds on the wheel and woke up just in time to avoid an oncoming 16-wheeler truck on the opposite side of the road. Shhh… don’t tell that to the rest of my family who were all fast asleep in the van, and unaware of our close call with the grim reaper.
Hmmm… first statement tunog masama ang loob, hehehe! Thanks for doing it Kuya Rudy! I got tagged so nandamay lang ako.
You’ve quite a revelation here huh?! # 3 though is a bit obvious! *Peace!!!*
hahaha tunog may poot si sngl! like winkie, nandamay lng po.hehe but you do write “honest craps”. i will not bother giving you the award if you arent.hehehe hmmm you were an autistic as a kid too?hehehe
It was fun reading this post. Your mom must’ve thought your number 9 made you autistic, ehe!
About your number 7, I actually don’t believe in the concept of people going to heaven, hell, or purgatory. In the religion I grew up with (which I eventually got kicked out of) we believed in paradise on earth. I was taught that when people die, they lie in waiting (so I don’t believe in ghosts as well) until judgement day, and then the worthy ones will rise from the dead, clean up the earth, and live in a paradise much like the garden of Eden. Although I’m no longer a practicing JW, I can’t get that belief out of my system anymore.
Strange as it may be, I am quite contented with having lived in this world now, and going (or not) somewhere when I die doesn’t bother me.
Sleeping on the wheels, can’t remember how many times, luckily our freeway only goes one way, just go drifting away until either someone blasted me their horns or hear that “wake me up” pavement before hitting the guardrails…now i make it a point to hit the service station every less than 4 hours drive.
About no.6 i still have reservation on that for the only reason that the only girl i really fell for was still a teenager I last seen her (or maybe in her very early 20s, gad it was very long time ago), now if you know what I mean…
You’re welcome din, Winks…
AngelMD> Nah! Don’t believe everything I write… arte lang yon hehe. Still, thanks for the award Angel, and BTW, nasa Manila ka pala ngayon?
As for number 7; Well, no one can really say if there is indeed heaven and hell, I guess it depends on your faith…
Vic> The expressways here also have a divider and guardrails, but only up to a certain point. Once you get off the expressway and into the highways connecting the provinces, the road merges and the only thing that would separate you from the opposite sides are those continuous white lines, which can sometimes be very hypnotic…
matampuhin ka rin? haha.
maraming bata ang dumaan sa pangungupit. welcome to the club.
Nice entry. 🙂
Regarding #4, once I’ve lost trust in someone, that trust rarely comes back. Thus, that qualifies as holding a very long, probably permanent, grudge on my part. 😀 (Pareho pala tayo ng club ni Atticus. Mag-inuman nga tayong tatlo one day. Hehehe)
I share your thoughts about #6. I’ve often wondered about it myself and it has certainly affected my Catholicism. It’s Ash Wednesday where I am and I had cheeseburger and french fries for lunch. 😀
We’re on the same page with #7. I love documentaries, especially ones that deal with history and science. 🙂
now that’s interesting. i say good job on the tag. i think it’s kind of hard to really think of revealing statements about oneself. and i think that autistic and SIDS bit was funny. LOL.
Atticus> Oo nga eh, parang naging rite of passage ang pangungupit, hehehe…
PM> Thanks PM, glad you liked this entry… 🙂
Louise, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship
#5 – I bet you most of us may have experienced that “mini theft and shop lifting syndrome” when we were young 🙂
#6 – I could say, if there is nothing and as long as we are non-existent and not sitting aroung twiddling our thumbs doing nothing, I’m fine with it : lol:
#10 – yikes, aren’t you glad we have Starbucks nowadays?
TK> Hmm, are you referring to that famous last line in Casablanca? or is it something else? Like say, being a member of our little “samahan”? 😀
BW> Know what? I was surprised to find out that I’m not the only one who went through that phase… and I thought I was unique, haha. 😀
See even if I have been reading your blogs for what seems like years, there are still surprises to know about you!
I am happy you survived both the SID and the SD. Sus, eh di wala kaming champion ranter in the blog world. hahaha
Note: SD= sleep driving
Annamanila> Ay, those are just the tip of the iceberg, Myrna. But I’m sure every blogger have their own peculiar things to reveal about themselves, which really makes for an interesting entry.
The occasional slap on the head was probaby meant to get the brain going, he he.
An uncle once did something of your #10, only there was no oncoming truck. And he didn’t wake up early enough to steer the car off the ricefields. While no one got hurt (except perhaps for the uncle’s bruised ego), we were one muddy mess when we got to Bicol.
Anna> Well I guess those slaps were effective, because I mysteriously developed a lifelong love for reading, hehe. As for your uncle’s “sleepdriving”, well, I guess some people aren’t built for long-distance driving… and that includes yours truly.
